Welcome to West End
West End is one of Brisbane's most diverse and interesting suburbs. Initially one of Brisbane's poorer suburbs, West End was home to the working classes, migrants and artists. Nestled in a bend of the Brisbane River, with glorious old trees and river views, the workers' cottages became highly coveted real estate and West End went through a gentrifying boom in the last two decades.
Many locals resisted the development and West End has become a suburb where BMWs park alongside old cars with peeling paintwork, where the latte crowd sit and enjoy their coffee next to the homeless. Tattoo parlours and family owned greengrocers and seafood shops sit comfortably with designer labels and classy restaurants.
West End is close to Brisbane's CBD but, because it's separated by the river and accessed by bridges, it feels a hundred miles away. The pace of life is different in West End. Time seems to travel a bit more slowly.
Boundary Street in West End is the main shopping street with a plethora of cafes and restaurants, including The Gun Shop Café and Tukka. Boundary Street also features two of Brisbane's favourite bookshops; Avid Reader for new books and fabulous coffee and Bent Books for second hand books. A few blocks from Boundary Street is Mick's Nuts on Hardgrave Road - the essential shop for Christmas delicacies and the freshest and best nuts.

Orleigh Park clings to the Brisbane River, with excellent walking tracks along the river and a wonderful fairy tale inspired children's playground, complete with a slide that's a sculpture of a frog's long tongue, a bridge for a troll to hide under and giant flowers that can be climbed into or on top of.
West End is a treasure trove of the old and the new, the rich and the poor, all mixed together to prove that diversity is a wonderful thing.
