Bigger, better, more beautiful bathrooms are the current trend. Make them light, open spaces where you can relax and pamper yourself.

If you’ve got an old Queenslander house, try to add an ensuite bathroom. It will add to the value of your property, especially if the ensuite is of a generous size, with good light and ventilation.

Skylights, extractor fans and heating lights are all good bathroom renovation features.

Saving money and water in the bathroom

The bathroom is one of the biggest water using areas in the home accounting for up to 20% of household water use. When you renovate, include water-saving showerheads, dual-flush toilets and flow restricted taps.

Under the Sustainable Housing Provisions major renovations must include AAA water saving shower heads and dual flush toilets. Investigate whether you are eligible for the State Government’s cash rebates. These are in addition to any rebates offered by your local Council.

Buy appliances that are more water efficient.Toilets, showers and some types of taps carry a water star rating to make it much easier to identify and buy appliances that are more water efficient. Labels display up to six stars, with more stars meaning the product is more water efficient.

Why not use the State Government Home Waterwise Service - for just $20 a licensed plumber will come to your home and carry out a range of water saving initiatives.

Green plumbers – plumbers trained to fit solar hot water systems, water saving shower heads etc. Find one who is trained in saving you water and energy costs.
